Joel, Adam and Dan, Seoul, South Korea

The story so far…

We (Joel, Adam and Dan) moved to Korea in September 2017 to start a YouTube channel. Initially we were pursuing a new career as YouTube content creators who were Christians, but Adam successfully sought to place their lives with Jesus at the centre of everything they did, dogmatically 'suggesting' they start every working day by reading the Word and praying together, which we did.

At the same time, some Christian friends had begun to move into the area, and we realised that what we were doing in our daily lives looked very similar to a New Testament church. So we started praying about whether God wanted us to plant a church here.

After several months of prayer we decided that indeed God was leading us to start a church. We asked some of the Christian friends around us if they would commit to exploring what 'church planting' meant with us. The outcome of this was a core group of 10-12 people committed to being a church plant in the local Yeonnam area of Seoul.

How does church work for us?

We have a weekly meeting of a core group where we read books on church together (the first book was Terry Virgo's 'The Spirit Filled Church'), catch up, have fellowship, and discuss the church, its growth, direction and any issues we may have.

On Sundays we have a morning meeting attended by 15-25 people, where we celebrate Jesus through song, prayer, the Word, and the bread and wine.

We have seen organic sharing of the Gospel lead to conversations, fellowship and deep friendships, through which people have come back to Jesus, committed their lives to Jesus for the first time, made radical life changes, engaged in church for the first time, or first time in years etc. We seek to disciple these people through regular fellowship around coffee, food, the Word, and just hanging out one-to-one and in small groups.

Overall, we love Jesus, and want to see His name glorified as we become more like Him, and as more people hear the Word, and give their lives to Him.
