"From complete standstill to 100mph!" 6 unique stories from Call to Go

We want to see 5 multiplying churches in every continent by 2030, 100 new churches spring up across the UK by 2040, and 20 churches planted in every European nation by 2050.

When every person - regardless of age, stage of life, marital status, background, qualifications or experience - is engaged in pioneering, a powerful new wave of church planting will sweep the nations. Some will be going, some will be staying, some will be sending, some will be supporting - ALL will be vital!

For a number of years, Maurice and Rachel Nightingale have been running Called to Go, a gathering of everyday people exploring a potential call to serve in a nation other than their own.

Their callings come in all shapes and sizes: some are traditional church planters, others are looking to live abroad and serve the local church there however they can, still others feel burdened to serve the wider movement of church plants across borders.

Whatever form their call takes, Called to Go has helped them to clarify the detail, make practical preparations and journey towards realising it. Many who attended have since moved to a new nation, whilst others have taken major steps forward.

We joined Called to Go in 2022 knowing where we were called to but facing mounting circumstances that were making the way forward unclear. Starting at the January launch and then in our regular online meetings we were able to share our story, gain wisdom and insight from others at all different stages, and receive prophecy and prayer. Incredibly, doors began to open, our circumstances changed, and halfway through the year we were joining the online meetings from the new city! It was surreal but brilliant, and being supported by our regular group built up our confidence and determination to do it.

When I started the course in January I had no real reason to be there except a love of God’s church, a multicultural background and ‘itchy feet’! I didn’t have any particular pull towards church planting or to a specific nation or people group, and I didn’t have any qualifications or training that pointed in a certain direction.

Well, over the course of the year my journey went from a complete standstill to 100mph! God replaced a vague feeling with a big vision of His heart for the nations, is showing me the next steps to take. Mentoring sessions with my elder and his wife provided a space to explore and define the shape of my calling, sparking a time of dreaming about the kind of pioneering adventure I’d like to go on. The prayers, prophecies and encouragement of my fellow ‘Called-to-Goers’ helped bring more shape, but then God nearly blew my socks off (!) at the Pioneer Europe Conference in Màlaga, when I received a prophetic word that described going on an adventure just like I had imagined in the months previous. I was so grateful for God’s kindness in confirming that what I was dreaming had been inspired by His Spirit.

I’d encourage anyone who has a genuine heart to see God’s church grow and thrive - regardless of any details or lack thereof - to consider Called to Go. Simply taking a step to explore if there’s more God is calling you towards is a wonderful step of faith that will delight Him.

When we started Called to Go we knew where we were going and when... but there was lots of preparing to do and a long nine months to wait!

It has been really special to walk through our year of preparation alongside others who really understand. The input and testimony of people already living in other countries has been really helpful and inspiring, and spending time with people who have a love for many different nations has kept us thinking of the ‘big picture’ as well as our little part of it. We’ve made friendships that we know will be valuable into our future.

It has been a joy to see others move from a ‘calling’ to a ‘going’ during the year, and a privilege to pray with and for them through the process, and we ourselves arrived in our new country a month ago - excited that it’s time to put into practice the things we’ve learned, but also knowing there’s much more for us to learn along the way! Very grateful to have been part of Called to Go 2021-22.

What we have loved about Called to Go is the sense of community. Pioneering can feel a lonely and frustrating pursuit at times, but being able to share your story, and gain encouragement of God’s faithfulness and provision from the stories of others, spurs you on to take your next step.

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.”

When we first realised that God was calling us to pioneer into East Germany we were really excited, but also found the prospect of going very daunting. To meet so many like-minded people on a similar journey was incredibly encouraging. Learning from other’s experiences, exploring together and praying for each other has been such a help so far. We can't wait to see what God has in store for us with this lovely community until we've put down roots in Chemnitz.

C2G has massively helped shape and give direction to the things God is calling us to - we loved the frequency (every 6-8 weeks) to have time set aside to think about, pray and invest in a call to be part of a church plant team in Europe. We loved our break out group who we were with every time - it was great to journey together, stay accountable, laugh, cry and pray together. It was through this group that we properly met and connected with Wouter & Simone Vertegaal who we’ve ended up following to Nijmegen, Netherlands to plant a church - so who knows who you might meet and connect with through C2G?!

If you are sensing God is calling you to pioneer in some way, however that might be, consider Called to Go.
